A commendable follow up to Shahid (Movie and not Me). The Movie- Capturing the essence of Metro Manila, Citylights does a brilliant job in keeping up with the original story line, yet provide the desi audiences a fresh twist to an old story - one of an impoverished family trying to escape poverty, and looking at an opportunity filled life in the big city. Always new and engaging, the movie moves at a fast pace, keeping the audience interest alive. While audiences are sure to anticipate what will happen to the young family once they arrive in the big city, they might not have much clue about the fate that unfolds. How at every corner there is deceit waiting to engulf the naive couple, and how opportunists keep a lookout for gullible individuals to tempt them into their web, is what the movie is all about. Full marks to the story spinner, screenplayer and the director to have shown human frailty in its truest sense. Lastly, if you ever come across any desolate Rajasthani couple reaching out to you for help, as is a common case in a big city, dont drive them out with spite. They can be your real-life Deepak and Rakhi looking for a hand to reach out. After all, you never know what kind of misfortune has forced the young couple to migrate from their nest to this big, bad city...!!
