==Community News Update== Students Win Culinary Award Two #Westhampton Beach School District students, Ryan Gilmartin, a middle school seventh-grader and Emma Edwards, an elementary school fourth-grader, have been recognized with a new school district culinary award after participating in a side-dish recipe contest. As part of the recognition, both students received a chef’s jacket and their dishes served to their entire school at during lunch. As part of the contest, students submitted recipes, which were selected by Naim Walcott, the director of food services. Walcott noted the winning recipes were chosen because they included healthy ingredients. Gilmartin’s recipe was for steamed potatoes with roasted garlic, lemon and dill. The recipe, said Gilmartin, was one he found online. “I changed the recipe up a little bit, adding more garlic and lemon,” said Gilmartin, who was thrilled to accept his award, especially because he hopes to become a chef. Likewise, Edwards said she hopes to learn more about the culinary arts field. Her winning pasta recipe includes olives, sundried tomatoes, capers, lettuce and garlic. Walcott said the contest was created in an effort to get students thinking about what they eat and more involved in the selection of foods in the cafeteria.
