“Court must hear the loud cry for justice by the society in cases of the heinous crime of rape on innocent helpless girls of tender years, and respond by imposition of proper sentence. Public abhorrence of the crime needs reflection through imposition of appropriate sentence by the court. To show mercy in the case of such a heinous crime would be a travesty of justice and the plea of leniency would be wholly misplaced.” The Supreme Court remarked in its judgement in 2000 in a rape and murder case which is quoted by the Spl Judge in the Delhi gang rape case while awarding death sentence to the 4 accused persons who committed the heinous crime of raping, assaulting and murdering a hapless girl who trusted them and boarded the bus they were running on the fateful night of 16 Dec 2012. Let us hope the execution of the judgement will take place at the same speed at which the prosecution of the case did take place.
