***Crisis Hits Kogi PDP Over Chairmanship Tenure*** The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been engulfed in fresh crisis over the elongation of the tenure of the incumbent chairman, Comrade Hassan Salau, a few days after the party and Governor Idris Wada won a major Supreme Court judgment. The crisis which is being spearheaded by notable politicians from the central senatorial district is based on the premise that the tenure of the incumbent had expired since 2011 and that since then no valid state convention had been held to elect a new executive for the party in the state. Hassan Salau was elected in 2007 and has since held sway due to intra-party squables. Speaking on the crisis, a PDP stalwart in Kogi State, Alhaji Idris Baba, said that Salau has overstayed in the office of the chairman, having been elected since 2007 and that according to the constitution of the party , a new chairman ought to have been elected from the central zone since 2011. Baba said according to the party’s constitution and rotational principle, the post of party chairman should go to the central zone, since the governor, Capt. Idris Wada hails from the eastern zone, while his deputy, Awoniyi hails from the west, same zone with Salau. “As the political equations is today, there is no equity,’’ he noted, adding that no convention could hold due to intra party squabbles especially involving the governorship elections.
