DEMOCRATS SPEAK OUT AGAINST KASICH AND THE GOP GENERAL ASSEMBLIES ELIMINATION OF THE HOMESTEAD TAX EXEMPTION FOR MANY OHIO SENIOR CITIZENS. Local seniors met downtown at the Muskingum County Democratic Party building to listen to democratic state officials explain how the removal of the tax break can negatively affect their future. It affects all of the seniors under the age 65, currently they are eligible for the Homestead Exemption on their home, the changes are that anyone unless they make under $30,000 a year becomes ineligible for the Homestead Exemption, said Guernsey County Senior, Frank Fleischer. Democratic state officials say they have currently sent legislation up for review that aims to reverse the removal of the Homestead Tax Exemption. There are a number of folks who are fighting this, said State Representative, Debbie Phillips. Ed Fitzgerald has spoken out strongly against it, he is running for Governor of Ohio, Senator, Lou Gentile, and Senator, Nick Barborak have introduced bills that would reinstate homestead exemption.
