***DID YOU KNOW*** * The worlds largest flower, Rafflesia arnoldii, measures up to 3 feet across and weighs close to 15 pounds! It grows in the rainforests of Indonesia. It is a parasitic plant which uses a host plant to gather water and nutrients. Though beautiful to behold, the bloom has an odor similar to that of rotting meat. * Bamboo is not a tree, but the largest type of grass in the world, plus Bamboo is one of the fastest-growing plants on Earth, with reported growth rates of 250 cm (98 in) in 24 hours. Thomas Edison used bamboo filaments in his first LIGHT BULBS, and one of those bulbs is STILL burning today at the Smithsonian in Washington, DC! Bamboo was the first PLANT LIFE to return after the atomic bombings in Japan. Also, some bamboos are cold hardy to -20 degrees F.
