:DISAPPEAR: The TV buzzes loudly as it was turned on. “Is something happening right under our noses? A candid footage was taken by an early hiker who just happened to pass by a military operation where here they clearly are excavating a-“ Switch, “There are incoming reports all over our city about people disappearing. Information says that these were incredibly silent operations and mysteriously, only adolescents were disappearing. There were no signs of murder-” Switch, “Adolescents may be disappearing, but there’s a whole lot of something else. Some are not stolen from their houses at night but just disappear at any time of day. People and families have reported their adolescents of coming back after two days but are not quite themselves.” Switch, “This mother speaks out about all the disappearances. She has an experience of her own. Her son returned one night and took hold of her throat. Lifting her up the wall with incredible strength, speaking in an alien-like langua-“ Zap, The screen blackens. × “Jefferson, what’s going on? We’re losing the whole pact of secrecy here!” Lydia came bursting through his doors screaming. “Call the local news, call everyone that carries a station, handle this! I cannot handle EVERYTHING on my own! This is your job!” Jefferson yelled through gritted teeth, the side of his fist burning with pain after he slammed it down on his desk. “What’s this other kind of disappearances they’re identifying, Jefferson?! This can’t possibly be another of your scientists’ experiments aren’t they?” Lydia’s face turned red, all the stress rushed up to her head, she was starting to have trouble breathing. And because she predicted this, she brought with her a large bottle of water, which she drank, letting her breathing ease even a little, but the stress was coming at her all at once. “All the adolescents we’ve taken are already in Cryogenics and are asleep!” He yelled again, “They aren’t any of our business. All the others were not our fault!” He pointed to his chest defensively. Lydia apparently had taken another gulp. Lowering the bottle from her mouth, she struggled to breathe with furrowed brows as she asked, “Well, who were those kids?! Running around, disappearing, coming back possessed! Who is LEFT?!” “There are . . . two,” Jefferson stated, sifting through medical documents, and stopping them as he found the ones he wanted that whizzed by. Lydia squinted at the brightness of the screen. “Mavericks, Maura and Mathens Shaylon, isn’t that-“ “He’s the son of Johnathan Mathens.” Jefferson said, “One of the soldiers who are on an assignment right now.” “Did he know about this?” Lydia inquired. Jefferson nodded grimly, “But we have given him a fair trade. We will let his son have a chance at defending himself. If he fails . . . he is ours.” “One is not going to cut it, Jefferson.” She said, shaking her head. “This boy knows how to hold a gun. And he’s-“ “I know, a good friend.” He nods grimly, “And yes, I’ve heard he can carry a gun,” Jefferson said calmly, “You think they’re doing this unarmed?” Lydia sat back, curious, nervous and worried. Did Jefferson mean they were going to shoot them down for the sake of research if they showed resistance? “Don’t worry,” Jefferson said, reassuring her. “Most of them are no trouble at all.”
