*****DISCHARGED and ACQUITTED***** My understanding of English - TopicsExpress

*****DISCHARGED and ACQUITTED***** My understanding of English language doesnt exceed the Olevel certificate excepting the Business Communication course at the University. Nor did I undergo any formal training in Law aside from the common Mercantile Law read in Accounting. Therefore, I am calling on the formally trained Barristers and Attorneys on Facebook; Adebayo Shittu, Gbogbo Adewale, Adebayo Mutalabi Ojo, Sharafadeen Alli, Segun Alli, Sheu Garba, and a host of others to bail me out. What is discharge? and What is acquittal? Permit me to paint a scenario. In a high brow murder case, rightly or wrongly, I was arrested, interrogated and detained by the Police. And later, I was arraigned before a Magistrate. The Magistrate admitted no jurisdiction but still ordered that I be remanded me in prison custody. The next day, the Police prosecutor withdrew all charges against me and subsequently, the Magistrate who had earlier admitted no jurisdiction ordered my release. To a Law illiterate like me, discharge in this context means to release as from legal confinement in prison. While acquittal means to be declared not guilty of a specific offense or crime: legally blameless. Could I go about telling whoever cares to listen that I have been discharged and acquitted?
