... Day 2. Mind over feathers. Last night as I ate supper and watched a little television, Toosie perched on the end of his cage with a tortilla in hand (Parrots are all left handed by the way), and actually sat and watched television with me. It was cute to watch. I still cant get too close to his cage unless I sit down. Hell come and engage in a staring contest with me and chirp a bit. When I try to get him to come near my arm, he backs away and enters into the deep bowels of that precious cage of his, and violently paces around complaining. He looks quite a bit like Groucho Marx if you ask me. I wouldnt put it past Toosie if he were using a lot of fowl language too. Yes, that was a joke that I couldnt resist, sorry. Anyway, he was really excited when I placed his soft sheet over his cage. He went crazy playing in that sheet and stayed hidden for about an hour as he cloaked himself in it and remained quiet. Needless to say, the night went well. Today, I admit that I am not a patient man and was quite anxious in picking up my feathered foe. I had a bright idea to use a freezer glove from work and to place it on my hand in order to engage Toosie so as to keep myself from being bitten by him again. Now I understand why those pictures of the hawk and eagle owners have them wearing large protective gloves. He bit at the glove and I could still feel slight pricks, but it was enough protection to get him to stand on my hand so that I could remove him from his cage and stroke him for a bit. He twice found the opportunity to fly back to the top of his cage, once trying very hard to evade my grip again by attempting to hide behind the cage. I at least held him and was able to pet him for a few seconds today. I am going to gradually keep trying. He looks and sounds so funny when he complains, but in the end, I am hoping that he learns that I wont be intimidated by his little show of feather ruffling, and that I mean to be his friend regardless.
