#Day5Downsyndromeawareness #MDSC Ive read that the most common genetic disorder that causes Hypotonia is Down syndrome. Also known as low muscle tone. It can affect many things and often includes some sort of delay. Gross motor (currently Drew is working hard to gain balance, weight shift and eventually walk), fine motor (currently Drew is working on isolating his pointer so he can point to objects, use a fork&spoon, manipulate small objects with his fingers).. It can also affect speech and eating in some children or bowel movements and even attention span, possibly decreased activity levels. This is another reason Early Intervention is so important, therapists work weekly from a very early age to build up muscle strength and address challenges as they arrive so children can keep up with their peers! :)
