Debbie Madsen Miller Yesterday at 11:50am · There are plenty of problems with the testing that goes along with Common Core but once serious concern is that by next year Common Core tests will start labeling kids in the 3rd grade. I submit an example from my own life when we had aptitude testing in junior high and high school (a couple of times - not 12 or 14 weeks/year, every year). I was told to NOT become a nurse because I didnt test that well in math and science. As a result I spent the first two years of college in a different major which ultimately was not a good career choice based on the numbers of graduates with that degree compared with the number of available jobs. I finally realized I wanted to be a nurse about 8 years later and went back to school with 5 small children. Aside from the wasted money and time I spent on classes that didnt apply (which only benefits the colleges), I did just fine! It was poor advice because tests dont tell all. I have now been an RN for 31 years. I would suggest reading this article which explains Common Core pretty well.
