(Deuteronomy 33:1) And this is the blessing, with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. There was a time when spoken words meant something … people were held to a strict accounting for truth and lies. There was a recognition that subtlety, double meanings, irony, sarcasm, pretenses, sales pitches, deceptions, etc., could lead to misunderstandings, frustration, conflict, and feuds. Back then, a blessing was a prediction of good circumstances ... spoken over a person or people … the spoken words were EXPECTED to come true. Thats because such people knew that God kept a strict accounting of their spoken words … and if their words agreed with His purposes, then it was right to expect their words to actually happen to that blessed individual … making them happy. But, today … Madison Avenue, television commercials, Hollywood movies, with all the actors, writers, salespeople and the like … have confused the issue … no more strict accounting for words spoken theatrically, comically, or in jest. “Just kidding,” could be the motto for our age. We speak words that are not only fictional (not true) but are meant to deceive … just ask the nearest salesperson, “do you tell your customers the “truth,” or just “features and benefits,” about your products and services?” … Youll probably get rationalizations, and an argument about “buyer beware.” This is the problem … words have power … whether they are truth, or lies. Ask any six year old kid who just watched a horror movie … “are monsters real?” Fiction is made to seem more real that Fact, in the media today. True words agree with Gods wisdom, knowledge and understanding … and lies pervert or contradict what is true. Blessings come to those who speak truth … and misery comes to those who trust in lies. Moses spoke blessings upon the Hebrew tribes, which came to pass … because God agreed. It was in Gods plan to make each individual tribe happy … to be glad that God was their god … to be glad that He was their Provider, Protector, Defender … to be satisfied with their portion … because they were His saints … the ones He called out from Egypt … to follow Him … to become His portion out of all the nations of the earth … to be His people. This is how blessings came to be thought of as, the wages of the righteous … those good things held in reserve for the noblest and best people among us … riches, rank, wisdom, honor and praise … and, every soul on earth sought these things for themselves. But, this concept of having the best things in life … of enjoying the privileges of family, status and rank … of succeeding and achieving goals… is a perversion of what is really true. For God says, Love not the World, neither the things in the World … and, Come out from among her and be you separated … and, be not conformed to the pattern of this World, but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind. The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth … to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are perfect towards Him … who rely on HIM … who put all their trust in HIM … whose confidence springs from HIM … NOT from their own abilities, or from the power they wield, or from their money, or the things they possess … which opposes what the World thinks, and is contrary to what many church-goers believe. It is taught in the New Testament that the BLESSED ones are … poor, hungry, weep (sad, sorrowful), hated, lonely, rejected, and slandered. Further, the HAPPY ones follow Jesus Christs example, suffer for being righteous, and are rejected by the elite because they belong to the Lord Jesus. Just because you enjoy this worlds good, have a comfortable life, and a lot of friends, is NOT proof of Gods favor towards you. Here is a picture of Gods favored ones … the chosen of God, his saints: … they are foolish in the eyes of the World … they are weak … base (meaning having no special value, like common old dirt) … they are despised … the “nothings of this World” … the “nobodys” … the Losers. These are the rich in faith ... more precious than the finest gold, in Gods eyes. Jesus says these are blessed … because they have nothing to trust … except God. Lord Jesus, thank You for Your grace … for the favor You show to me every single day. Lord, I depend upon Your mercy … and I am persuaded that You will never fail me, even though I might feel frustrated … that You will never leave me, though I might feel lonely … that You have given me the victory, though I have temptations to endure. Lord, I have no one else to turn to … I have no other helper … no one understands my thoughts and experiences like You do. I praise You for being my Faithful God … in Whom my heart can safely trust. Lord, comfort the hearts of all who weep and grieve over their losses, Today. Help us to see that a day is coming when You will wipe away all the tears … and to see that only what we do for You in this life has any real value. Share Your comfort and strength with us. Save every dear soul … and fill us all with Your peace, love, and hope … this day … in Jesus name.
