* Did FB Pages indulge in Riot-Mongering? * [By Robin Chettri, in comment to The Voice of Sikkim] There is a media judgement and media courts happening at the national level and Sikkim is now no different. There are facebook pages which are for SDF and some are against SDF. We all know who is on which side. But I dont want to go there now. Since you are saying you give genuine information, I have few questions for you. The lathicharge should not have happened and it is an unfortunate incident. But your posts sounded like the State Government is persecuting the students in the state. The reason police do not encourage crowd and protests is because it is the perfect setting for miscreants and antisocial elements to take over. 1) Whose decision was the fee hike? Once the fee was hiked, what was the course of action taken by the students? More importantly, is the fee hike justified, to any extent? 2) You have posted comparing state Government with Hitler and what not. Do you even know what Hitler did? 3) This is one of your posts - ARU cha, of Sikkim police aka Tear Gas Launcher put on realtime work by devastating health of Sikkim people, students and small kids - Please tell me how the health of people has been devastated when the police issued Section 144 when people are supposed to not go out in groups. 4) Where is the Home Minister in this situation of life and death of Public and Innocent students, voices people who are fearing of riot at Tadong. - was there really a life and death situation in Sikkim? 5) Whats a use of Army ? People are started getting anguished at Tadong. - Did you bother to find out why the Army is out before posting these? 6) Small children have fainted and are seen lying on the ground after tear gas attack. - Do you have any evidence or proof for this? Most importantly, the point i was making about media courts, and here is your post. 7) When the picture and video is totally clear how brutally Police manhandled innocent college students then no more probe is required after that. - a person who is accused of murder is given a chance to testify in the court. You do not want a probe, but a persecution. The point of a committee is to hear out both sides. These are only some of the posts. Not one page has appealed for peace in these times. There is enough evidence on what role media has been playing in encouraging the riots. I am not saying you did or someone else did. But have to be careful before you post something.
