-Disaster Assistance Mission-Typhoon Ruby(Hagupit)-Early morning update-------Panicked residents cleared the shelves of grocery stores and packed gas stations in the central Philippines as Typhoon Hagupit quickly approached the island country, rehashing awful memories of complete devastation created by Super Typhoon Haiyan a year ago. Thousands of families were evacuated Friday morning, according to NBC News, as Hagupit – which translates to smash in Filipino – closed within just over 250 miles of the countrys eastern coast. The storm, which is known locally as Ruby, may hit Eastern Samar province on Saturday, crashing inland with devastating winds and rain along nearly the same route Haiyan took last November. That storm killed more than 7,000 and leveled villages in what was one of the planets worst weather disasters of 2013. Manila, the capital and second largest city in the Philippines, is in a cone of uncertainty, according to weather meteorlogist Chrissy Warrilow. Mayor Joseph Estrada stated, We have alerted the people of Manila, and were ready, while noting, these typhoons change direction all the time. Warrilow said Manila should be on guard. (Disaster Assistance Mission) We have local 1st responders in several areas waiting to help. Individual food packs are being prepared at Edwins house for distribution after the storm passes. We can continue to do this work of feeding hungry people whose lives have been devastated by disasters only with the financial support of our brothers and sisters. Please pray for the thousands of people whose lives may been forever changed and for us as we show the love of the Lord to them by just providing a simple meal and a helping hand. We need your help to purchase more food & supplies that will be needed over the next few weeks.
