“Diyandi Festival”, fiesta month of September in iLigan City, Lanao Norte, Philippines year 2014 is now on-going Saint Michael the Archangel, Sept 29 Monday; San Lorenzo Ruiz, Hinaplanon, Sept 28 Sunday; Opening Salvo, City Public Plaza, Sept 1 Monday MSU 53rd Foundation Day, MSU-iiT, Sept 1 Start of Annual Tourism Week, Sept 20 Saturday and 180th Year Foundation Day Culminating Program of Saint Michael Cathedral Parish, Sept 20 By: RAUD, 2014 Sept 10 Wed, 7:30pm Peace. For tourism development and in honor of her patron saint, Saint Michael the Archangel, iLigan City in Lanao Norte, Philippines, holds its annual month-Long “Diyandi Festival” in September and fiesta Celebration on every September 29, Monday. The center of celebrations could be the nine (9) day Novena and Masses at the Saint Michael the Archangel Cathedral. The annual “bringing down” of the image of the Patron, Saint Michael will be done at the Cathedral on Saturday September 20, 2014 at 6:00am. The bringing down or “pagpakana-ug sa Patron”, will immediately be followed with a procession around the City of the image of the patron saint with the images of the various and popular saints (in iLigan City) including that of the various images of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the respective devotees of each saint in iLigan City and all kinds of visitors, and guests from all-over the country and the world. It will indeed be a “Parade of all Saints”. Some individuals and groups have also organized some homecoming activities for all kinds of iLiganons from around the nation and the world with special activities and re-union entitled “BaLik na, iLiganon” (“Come home now, iLiganon”) on Friday September 26, 2014. The people of iLigan City, led by the City Government and various organizations have lined up many, various, and different socio-cultural-economic programs almost everyday from the first day to the last day of the whole month of September, of every year. These include the Grand Opening on Monday September 8, 2014 at 3:00pm of the Annual Trade and Carnival Fair or “Tabo-an sa iLigan” at the Robinson’s Land Corporation in Barangay Tubod, iLigan City. On Monday September 1, 2014, the City Government led by the City Mayor Honorable CELSO Gomera REGENCiA (PNP Colonel retired), led an Opening Salvo Program for the month-Long “Diyandi Festival” at the Rizal Park and City Public Plaza. Other samples of these different programs could now be seen on about one hundred pages and walls as well as by many individuals and discussion groups on Facebook about iLigan City and related socio-cultural-economic developmental organizations. On Facebook one could easily open EXPLORE iLiGAN 9200; ASENSO iLiGANON; iLiGAN WEB; Diocese of iLigan; Lumad KaLiwat iLiganon; and various related links. The month-long fiesta celebration must be with some introductory highlight on every September 20. Since the year 2004, the City Government has declared through an iligan City Ordinance No. 04-4605 that September 20 of every year be a Special Non-Working Holiday in iLigan City to start a Tourism Week series of activities. For year 2014, September 20 a Saturday, is the holding of a Culminating Program of the 180th Year of the Founding of the Saint Michael Cathedral Parish, (1834-2014). The four-month celebration was launched last May 18, 2014, Sunday. The celebration included a musical singing contest and a a number of concerts at the Cathedral by various choirs and musical groups of the city. And probably giving due recognition to the residents, government and private officials and employees and students at all levels for their groups and individual contributions, playing hosts including in their respective homes, and guides, and most importantly for some general security, peace, and order for more than a week for all, especially for the guests and visitors, there is the usual public holiday and some “rest day” on every September 30 since 2004. Iligan City Ordinance No.: 05-4817 dated September 19, 2005, amending City Ordinance No.: 04-4616 recognizing September 30, 2004 as a public holiday, declares that September 30 of each year as a Non-Working Holiday exclusively for the public sector only and to include all schools private and public, while the private sector is encouraged to observe the same. Another big feastday or fiesta in iLigan City is for the First Filipino Saint, San Lorenzo Ruiz of Binondo, Manila on September 28, Sunday. The center of celebrations, nine-day novena prayers before Sept 28, and Masses is at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish Church in Tambo, Barangay Hinaplanon. September fiesta month celebrations in iLigan City must also be opened at the Mindanao State University-iLigan institute of Technology (MSU-iiT) with the Institute’s “Palakasan” Sports and Cultural Activities at least one week before September 1, the Foundation Day of the MSU-System based in Marawi City since 1961 and for MSU-iiT since 1968. For year 2014, MSU-iiT activities opened with the parade of various “technological floats” from various colleges and schools with the various candidates for Miss and Mr MSU-iiT.
