“Do You Care That We Perish?” PART #2 Mark 4:35-39KJV. We humans are indeed true replica of our ancestral stalk, Adam. We did not just receive our brand name, ‘Adamic nature,” for nothing. Indeed, we’ve learned so much from our great ancestor to be exactly like him. We’ve also worked hard to maintain our true identity that we inherited or copied from him whom we descended. When Mr. and Mrs. Adam sinned, the next thing that they did was to play the blame game with God. They blamed God for what they’ve done, their sin. None admitted to God that she had actually done anything wrong. Notwithstanding, in deliberate they disobeyed their Creator, God when He instructed that they should not eat fruit from the forbidden tree else they die. Their blame game was that each pointed her accusing finger at the other. Adam said it was Eve’s fault. And Eve said it was the serpent’s. The devil might have as well said that it was the woman, Eve’s fault. However, underneath each of their accusation, God was their ultimate target. They rather accused God that He was the cause of their sin. Why? God was the Creator of all. Adam, Eve and the serpent, each had an alibi for their sin. Consequently, they were very poised and determined at all cost to defend and exonerate themselves from sin and guilt. Why should they accept guilt and punishment from God who Himself created what caused, enticed, helped or enabled each to commit the sin that they did? They queried God, their Creator vehemently. Therefore, they all accused God, the Creator that it was His entire fault that they were able to do what each did, sinned. They contended that: Had God not created the man? Had He not created the woman? Or had He not created the serpent? And finally, had God not created the forbidden tree and also equipped the tree to bear its sinful fruits? The sinners all agreed and contended that had all not been created and put in place we will have had zero sin. Is man’s idea not foolish to defend even by himself? Yesterday, we learnt a valuable lesson from the inner disciples of Jesus Christ. The real story took place when Jesus was on a voyage with His disciples on the Sea of Galilee. They were all with Him in the same boat. The story unfolds thus: And the same day, when the even was come, He saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. And when they had sent away the multitude, they took Him even as He was in the ship. And there were also with Him other little ships. And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake Him, and say unto Him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And He said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him? (Mk. 4:35-41 KJV c.f. Matt. 8:23-27; Luke 8:22-25). We know from Scripture that some of Jesus’ inner disciples were seasoned fishermen. So when the violent, buffeting windstorm continues to rage on, even causing havoc to the boat they did not want to involve, bother their Master and Lord, Jesus the Christ who was with them in the same boat with them. After they’ve done all they could possibly do to stop the buffeting windstorm they failed. It was then that they came back to their senses and remembered that, after all, they were with their Master, Jesus the Christ in the same boat. At that moment that His disciples came back to their senses and awakened Him from sleep to help them before they’re drawn. And He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake Him, and say unto Him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? They shouted to Him. Jesus arose and rebuked the mysterious buffeting wind and the water and there was peace and tranquility. As a human being like the disciples you might have observed yourself, what you usually do in times of your critical situations like the buffeting windstorm that THE disciples of Jesus encountered. And you’re also a disciple of Jesus. Usually, we do not call upon Jesus at all in prayer. We are reluctant to involve Him in our situations as if they are very dear and personal to us. Instead, we often blood and worry about our situation, plights and circumstances intensely. Yet we’ve the attitude and the audacity of the disciples even to play the blame game on Jesus. How many times have we inwardly not blamed and accused Jesus of our neglect and abandonment? Haven’t you once said that you have prayed and prayed… and have you never given up on God in prayer about your situation? Instead, we blood and converse our problems to helpless others like ourselves. Today, the Scripture is more right and has come to fulfillment in your life and mine in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that: “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.” Stop your blame games. You will never win with your strategy. You’re never a victor but a loser when your attitude is to only blame. You have blamed the defeated devil all your life and for that much have never won your victory over him whom your Almighty Lord God, Christ Jesus had declared you victorious over Him long ago, about two thousand years. He instructs that you place him under your feet. Put your absolute trust and confidence in Him who is more than able to… Have no respect and regard for him who is defeated yet you’re sacred of him, the devil to your own detriment. Why? It’s because you still strongly believe in the shadows that eat and feed you with your fears about him and the witchcrafts. Only draw nearer and closer to God and taste His agape love and abundance grace. And may the Living God remember you in all that your heart desires! Amen. Rev. Kwame Ankoma-Amoa
