”Do you ever get the feeling that the storys too damn real and in the present tense? Or that everybodys on the stage, and it seems like youre the only person sitting in the audience?” 40 years ago, 1974, was a great time for music and dynamic cover art. Many bands of the time, who are better known for earlier breakthrough albums, actually put out their best work in 73 and ’74. Their skill & experience, the analogue technology and progressive rock aesthetic was at its peak. Prog Rockers from the 15th century Jethro Tull recorded War Child their paean to the compromised society of the post-WW2 generation, included ”Skating Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day”, my favourite Tull song, saying it all in 4 minutes wittily, musically, gently satirically. The album cover features th ebest use of a negative IMO for an album cover, and the cityscape behind is Melbourne 1974, chosen because Ian Andersen asked for the most boring city skyline (!). https://youtube/watch?v=ZTKu-L1b--o
