**Doctor Barbour’s House In Whitesville** This impressive brick house sits in the lower portion of Whitesville, right next to the upper theater, which is the white structure in the photograph. I remember going to see Doctor Barbour when I was a child. To get into his small office there in the house, we went along a small path between the house and the theater. I remember the office as having a slightly bitter odor: the medicines he stocked there, I guess. Maybe it was because I was small at that time, but the Doctor seemed to be a pretty tall man, white-haired, and with a sort of pock-marked complexion. Whatever problem I was having, Dr. Barbour placed me on a “Fluoroscope,” a machine that may have been a forerunner of the MRI machines of today. Anyway, he had a wonderfully calming, but no-nonsense manner. He gave me some medicine and sent my Dad and me on our way, with me feeling considerably better than when I went in.
