#DopeWomenWednesday I met her while I was an intern in this program called INROADS. We both worked at General Motors. We were based out of flint so we spent a lot of time together. She attended Howard University and she always repped HBCU life which made us closer. She ended up working for GM full time after college and was based out of NY. I would visit and we would kick it HARD, my dance partner to this day! In college she talked about film and acting and while in NY she continued to study the art. She realized corporate life was not her passion so she decided to leave GM without a job, just her savings (which was a nice chunk because she planned and invested), so she could focus on her art. She dedicated her time and resources to the film industry. She wanted to grow her craft so she decided to make another move to LA. She arrived and she instantly went to work!!! She created featured films, many shorts and received acting roles in sitcoms, movies and her own work. Her FAITH is so strong it makes you wonder if a person like her exist! She believes God will make it happen and she works towards that goal. I tell people all the time I never have to worry about her, she is a true HUSTLER! She is going to make it happen!!! Her work ethic is UNREAL and she is the most resourceful person I know. You can ask about anything and she has read about it or can offer where to learn more! Lol! She represents Flint town and reps to the fullest. Her love for her city is like the love I have for my city! She is simply amazing, she motivates me to keep going after my dreams. She shows me what faith is all about, she is smart, she still knows how to KICK it and she is my sister, love you Jamie Burton-Oare!! Im gonna call today GRIT Wednesday!! Lol! So I met this sista at Gesu, but I didnt really care for her and I dont know why because I liked everyone else in her crew! Lol! So I think it was because she thought she was all of that at 11 years old, I didnt get it then but I understand today that she is all of that! We ended up attending the same high school and our friendship grew. I realized that she was just as crazy as me!! Lol! She attended Clark University, another HBCUer, and we kicked it all the time when I visited ATL. We had so much fun in our friendship we decided to be roommates after college. You talk about FUN! She would get us into ANY party in Atlanta! She can work connects, relationships and people that never exist to get us places! LOL! I use to be so hype because we would be in the most exclusive parties cause of her, I use to tell my Mommy that this skill set transfers into the professional world!! LOL! Im talking about we KICKED it!! She is that friend that you know when you two connect up, it is gonna be so much fun and possibly so much trouble! LOL! Just typing this note got me hype to see my girl!! Lol! But the thing I love about her most is her GRIT! She turned her dream into her reality. She wanted to be in the entertainment industry and she made it happen. Currently, she is doing her thing in an industry that is a dog eat dog world. She always has to watch her back because many people didnt like her starting out and some may not now. But I understand their concern because she is so DOPE she will continue to be successful! My advice to them is to recognize because she is going places. But the amazing thing about her is she pulls up others as she climbs. She has looked out for my mentees when I have asked and she has looked out for others in the industry. She is the master networker, she is a hard worker, she is FUN, she has GRIT that people pray for, she is my sister!! Love you and thank you for being so DOPE Cannon Kent!!! And to top it off they share the same birthday of Jan 20th and they are so much alike it is scary! I ADMIRE them both and they are my #DopeWomenWednesday!!
