Downtown Infrastructure & Streetscape Project Continues on Schedule Phase 1 of the East Clayton Street area continues on schedule. ACC Public Utilities built some time into the schedule to account for possible weather delays and they report that the water main installation process has gone smoothly thus far. Work has now started on the third of the four sections of this years work. The Phase 1 work for the current block of East Clayton Street is planned for completion in July. 10 Water Main Pipe Installation The installation of the 10 water main pipe is planned to continue on East Clayton Street from the intersection of College Avenue to North Jackson Street as of Monday until July. It will include installation of the pipe in the street, as well as establishing new connections to buildings and system flushing. Additional details on activities can be found below. Work Ends on Thursdays As part of the general schedule of construction, Public Utilities work during this phase of improvements is scheduled to finish up by Thursday every week. For this week of graduation, there will be no work on Friday, May 9 or over the weekend. Work will resume on Monday, May 12 and continue to run weekly from Monday through Thursday. Parking & Work Site Most of the work for the next several weeks will be in the roadway, requiring lane closures and on-street parking closures. ACC Public Utilities is committed to leaving open as much parking as possible and leaving a clean work site at the end of each day and the week. Trees In March, work involved with installation of a new fire hydrant necessitated that three trees needed to be removed in front of Wuxtry Records on the corner of College Avenue and East Clayton Street. Although plans call for all of the street trees to be replaced in the project corridor during Phase 2s streetscape improvements in 2015, some trees may still need to be removed during this years Phase 1 water line work. None are scheduled for removal at this time, but as has been noted before, sometimes changes occur due to what is found when working under a street system well over 100 years old. Below is more information on the overall schedule for this years work, which is scheduled to end in August.
