(Drummers technique, ability, and anatomy aside) Why do some drums - TopicsExpress

(Drummers technique, ability, and anatomy aside) Why do some drums slap easier than others and what determines the sound quality (purity) of the slap tone? Which is the order of importance: Skin, Drum head size, presence of an alma or other things intruding the inside space, inner surface too slick=ringy, type of wood, thickness of wood staves, shape and precision uniformity of bearing edge, how high the drum is tuned (tensioned), other? How do older vintage drums stack up in this regard to newer manufactured drums. Is slap tone and slap ease part of the reason we like custom hand made drums now? What is the relationship between the quality of the open tone and the quality of the slap tone on any given drum? What is the best drum for slap tone and ease? Why do certain classic maestros have a slap tone that is so sonorous and penetrating? What did they know or do to their drums/skins etc.? I am thinking this is a deep subject...... (of course, that is why they are maestros... claro) https://youtube/watch?v=9rHbMy-1oQA
