***Dunboyne AC athletes dominate Tara AC 5km Road Race*** Rory Kavanagh led the return of a Dunboyne contingent to the scene of a past victory of his, being crowned High King in 2013, with a view to coming back with a victory again in 2014. His trip proved fruitful but he was pushed all the way by training colleague Luke Forde who came second overall, just 4 seconds behind. The two lads are only getting back into training now following a fantastic track season and those times bode well for the upcoming cross country season. The final spot on the podium was also secured by a Dunboyne AC athlete, Ahmed Abdi, who was out for the past couple of months with shin splints. Ahmed ran an excellent 16:16 and will run in his first senior cross country season next year with the Club. Ahmed was 1st Junior on the night. Not too far back was Abdullahi Abdulle in 7th position overall, and 2nd Junior, in a time of 17:00, after going out hard with the pace in the first half of the race. The four lads made up the winning mens team in Tara, good going guys! If Rory was crowned High King then Emilia was the Queen of Hearts (she does bake tarts!) coming 2nd female overall to Emma Donlon of MSB and first in her category in a time of 19:12. Next over the line for Dunboyne AC was Kevin Deery whose better half won the ladies race. Kevin completed the course in a time of 20:11. Ray Mitchell left this race last year with a burst appendix, yes he literally burst a gut getting up that hill. His experience in 2014 was a little bit more sedate thankfully! Ray got around in a time of 21:46. As usual, with all Meath races, Tara AC put on a remarkable spread and a top notch race, well done to Tara AC. Next up on the horizon for Dunboyne AC is the Bohermeen 5 Mile incorporating the Rennicks and Fr. Delany Cups on Sunday 7th September.
