During the 1968 riots in Chicago Dad gave us a choice for vacation: We could go to Chicago and watch the thugs burn down their own communities from a tall hotel or we could go to Lake of the Woods in far northern MN for a week riding a float plane in and out and staying with cousins who owned the resort. Mom put her foot down saying we were going to ride a float plane and fish and to shut up about watching riots and fires from a tall hotel. Dad grumbled about missing the riots for years afterwards. Dad and Mom said the pilot who was another cousin had recently flown into a white out, crashed the plane and had to walk back with a broken arm. We flew over miles and miles of trees growing out of water and I had my eyes pressed to the window wondering how the pilot walked out of that. Awhile after our vacation he smashed up his most recent plane killing himself. TED On the most recent riots. Why do rioters burn down their own neighborhoods? That was one of things Dad was grumbling about. Instead of pooling their money and taking buses to wealthy white neighborhoods nad smash stuff they burn down their own nieghborhoods then have to live with what theyd done. https://youtube/watch?v=oTUqOBJsRdg
