***************EDUCATION**************** PREAMBLE Aware of the critical role Education plays in the transformation and development of individuals ,societies and nations through the development of the human resource as a prerequisite for a lasting and meaningful development. Noting with concern the negative impact and unprecedented setback the over two decades Northern Uganda Insurgency had on social services generally and on the education standards in this region. Realizing that our progress as a Municipality and as a country cannot be faster than our progress in the education sector. Further realizing that meaningful and sustainable rehabilitation and reconstruction of Lango can truly be attained through quality education and skills training of our people. Cognizant of the fact that improvement in the quality of Education and excellence in academic performance calls for a concerted effort, commitment and contributions from all stakeholders such as Parents, Pupils, Teachers ,School administrators, policy makers and Government. The Authority of Lira Municipal Council wishes to announce the official kick off of THE MAYORS EDUCATION QUALITY ENHANCEMENT INITIATIVE MEQEI 2014 -2016. Targeting all the 19 Government aided primary schools in Lira Municipality as well as other privately owned primary schools. Activities to be carried out under this initiative in all targeted schools are. *Lesson demonstration either in English or Social Studies to be conducted by the Mayor Morris Odung Omara Apakaca who also doubles as a teacher. *General monitoring, School inspection and appreciation of the learning environment in Municipal Schools. *Stakeholders Educational Improvement Consultative meeting comprising of the Mayor Lira Municipal Council, Secretary for Education, Municipal Education Officer, Municipal Inspector of Schools,Headteachers, teaching and non teaching staff, members of School Management Committees, PTA Executives and NGOs in the Education Sector. The key objectives of this initiative is to. IMPROVE ON THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION GIVEN TO OUR CHILDREN OF LIRA MUNICIPALITY AND TO ENCOURAGE ALL THE CANDIDATES TO EXCEL IN PRIMARY LEAVING EXAMINATIONS PLE BY 2016. The Slogan for this education quality enhancement initiative is, OUR CHILDREN,OUR FUTURE. Your maximum cooperation and moral support for this nobble cause is highly appreciated in advance.
