EMPIRE DEBATE- SUPREME COURT LONDON. A historic debate was organised recently by the Indo-British Heritage Trust on the merits and de-merits of the British empire . The motion before the house was, The Indian sub-continent benefited more than it lost from the experience of British Colonialism. The team against the motion was brilliantly led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and included fellow authors William Dalrymple and Nick Robins. The initial vote at the beginning of the debate went 35 to 28 for the motion. When it was over, voting took place again, and the needle had moved dramatically: 26 to 42 against.
