~ EVENSONG The Eve of The Epiphany of the Lord - Twelfth Night • Opening Sentence Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:3 • Collect of the Day ~ The Epiphany of the Lord O God, who by the leading of a star manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. • A Collect for Saturdays O God, the source of eternal light: Shed forth your unending day upon us who watch for you, that our lips may praise you, our lives may bless you, and our worship on the morrow give you glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For Mission O God, you manifest in your servants the signs of your presence: Send forth upon us the Spirit of love, that in companionship with one another your abounding grace may increase among us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • For the Future of the Human Race God our heavenly Father, you have blessed us and given us dominion over all the earth: Increase our reverence before the mystery of life; and give us new insight into your purposes for the human race, and new wisdom and determination in making provision for its future in accordance with your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. • Carol As With Gladness, Men of Old 1. As with gladness men of old Did the guiding star behold; As with joy they hailed its light, Leading onward, beaming bright, So, most gracious Lord, may we Evermore be led by Thee! 2. As with joyful steps they sped, Savior, to Thy lowly bed, There to bend the knee before Thee whom heaven and earth adore, So may we with willing feet Ever seek Thy mercy-seat! 3. As they offered gifts most rare At Thy cradle, rude and bare, So may we with holy joy, Pure and free from sins alloy, All our costliest treasures bring, Christ, to Thee, our heavenly King! 4. Holy Jesus, every day Keep us in the narrow way; And when earthly things are past. Bring our ransomed souls at last Where they need no star to guide, Where no clouds Thy glory hide. 5. In the heavenly country bright Need they no created light; Thou its Light, its Joy, its Crown, Thou its Sun which goes not down. There forever may we sing Alleluias to our King!
