~Eat Sleep Write presents Daily Poetry~ ------------------------------------------------ Banquet By Jackson Ahern Observed in order and elegant symmetry set in lace and linen of fine brocade sterling of Celtic twist, well balanced bone china in patterns of ancient Cathay Waterford vase caresses spring irises rescued from late snow All upon a plain of burnished mahogany while rose cheeked children sit, well mannered, in white starched pinafores, in straight backed chairs, and dream of raspberries on their rosebud lips. I hide my rapt attention and dream of placing words in this perfect order ---------------------------------------------------- Jackson Ahern lived in a field-stone farmhouse built in the 1760’s. After 200 years of continues agrarian culture they were the last to farm the land. Within ten years the east-coast urban megalopolis at swallowed it up and him with it. This transition represents his artistic sensibility. He went from reading Robert Louis Stevenson’s ‘A Child’s Garden of Verses,’ to Ginsberg’s ‘Howl.’ One foot in the retro Americana world of Norman Rockwell, and one foot in the post-modem world of a Frank Zappa ‘Freak-Out.’ He writes everything from despair to whimsy. Fourteen of his short stories are published in the anthology Four Square (tales of life). He has also had several lyrics set to music by bands from Ireland to California. Eat Sleep Write Authors.
