[Egyptian student jailed for announcing that he is an atheist] Karim al-Bana, a 21 year old student who announced that he is an atheist is arrested and sentenced to a jail term of three years for the crime of insulting islam in accordance to the Egyptian constitution. His father, who testified against him, said that his son is embracing extremist ideas against Islam for making this announcement. Karim has been in custody since November and his appeal hearing is not scheduled to take place until later in March this year.
