(Event)Uncovering Medieval Trim (Description)With Cultural Tourism Ireland, enjoy a personal view as life as an archaeologist at the multi-award winning Blackfriary Community Archaeology Project where on-going excavations are uncovering the ruins of a 13th century Dominican friary. On site, you will have a welcome talk about the history of the town and its setting in the Boyne Valley, the history of the friary and the on-going community regeneration project. Then you will be brought on a walkabout of the site and will spend time with our on-site and laboratory based supervisors, including time in one of the active excavation cuttings. You will be told the story of the friary through its findings - including the beautiful imported architectural stone features, the human burials, and the other artefacts that are being uncovered. Through these activities you will learn the process of archaeological discovery, from excavation to interpretation, in what is guaranteed to be a lasting and cherished memory. After your time on-site enjoy a leisurely guided walk through the medieval town. Trim has retained its original medieval streetscape and boasts more upstanding medieval buildings and structures than any other town in Ireland. You will visit important sites including Irelands largest and best preserved Anglo-Norman Castle.
