~Every fall my mother makes apple pie. I eat it. ~Once or twice a year I pick up an International trip and experience other cultures, and I enjoy their cuisine. Once or twice a year. ~I live ON THE ROAD. Sometimes I have to make the healthiest choices out there which arent very healthy, but I do the best I can. 90% of the time eating cold healthy food ive prepared and drug around the country with me. ~I go to the hotel gym when others are at the hotel bar. ~I eat cold chicken, egg whites, etc., when others are eating out of a cardboard box covered in plastic. ~When im home I start my day with eggs and brussels sprouts, YUM!!!!! Love it! ~I eat a LOT of salads, arugula, field greens, spinach, kale. ~I love brown rice....quinoa....sweet potatoes.....Kale burgers.....Black bean pasta. ~I love to eat healthy. Not only is it good for my body and my mind, but being dedicated to it also allows me to indulge and enjoy family traditions, like my Mothers apple pie. Someday....she wont be here to make one for me. Lets keep things in perspective, shall we? I love my Moms apple pie......Every fall. Not every day. ~I love wine......after my half marathon on Sunday you can bet your sweet apple pie ill be enjoying a glass. Not RIGHT after......lol. But you get it. Whats my point? Ill tell you....... To be healthy.....you dont have to eat brown rice, chicken, egg whites, tuna, and asparagus 24/7. Do I absolutely love all of that? Yes!!!!!! But you CAN indulge without throwing your health out the window. I had apple pie. It wont kill me. Its a treat that my Mom bakes with love every fall and I look forward to the smell in the house. I associate it with my favorite time of year. It is NOT healthy when you do it ALL THE TIME! Its not a TREAT when you have it ALL THE TIME! Its not indulging when you do it ALL THE TIME!!!!!!! Its DANGEROUS and SELF DESTRUCTIVE when you do it all the time. I.....dont do it all the time.....so I can indulge, guilt free, occasionally......keep it real, people. Its okay to treat yourself. Just watch the portion. Eat slowly. Dont inhale. Give time for satiety to kick in which usually takes about 20 minutes. And limit yourself to one piece. Im going to London on the 12th - 14th. You can bet your pretty little sweet potato that ill find a real english pub and enjoy some fish in chips. Find me in Ireland? And ill have a nice warm Guinness in my hand. And guess what....my hearts gonna keep on tickin....... Dont be afraid of food. Rather be responsible with it... and practice mindful eating.
