Exactly what Monique said. Republicans (or CONSERVATIVES, because sadly too many republicans have bought into the big government lie) are NOT AGAINST helping people, we believe that that belongs in the hand of the people or private organizations rather than an impersonal, inefficient centralized power that enables MILLIONS to continue their abuse. When a person helps another person there is a level of accountability that comes into play. That accountability is stripped away when the government usurps the place of the individual, which is why you have whole communities destroyed by government dependency. Christ commands us to show compassion, to help the poor, to bless others as we have been blessed! Is it any wonder that more conservatives and Christians donate money, their time, create organizations and groups to make the world a better place and help others. Helping others belongs is a personal decision and belongs in the hands of people. That being said, most conservatives r not against some welfare--especially for those truly disabled. And no one I think would disagree with a LIMITED assistance for those down on their luck but it must be strictly administered, and none of this years and years on it. Public housing is a joke. Ppl actually incorporate public aid INTO THEIR PLANS. The problem is that democrats/socialists/communism CREATES poverty and KEEPS people in it, by stripping away initiative, incentive to work and a system that requires no accountability, but encourages people to continue the downward spiral--It reduces the individuals capacity to succeed.- Christine Kovalcik
