//Exhibition// THE HORSE IN MIND An exhibition by Diana Hand, equestrian artist and graduate of the Glasgow School of Art Exhibition Runs: 12th May to 5th June 2014 Diana was educated at the Ruskin School of Drawing in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and has a strong grounding in traditional drawing. She regards this as a starting point towards a more experimental approach, and she was later able to develop her ideas further at the Glasgow School of Art. Diana creates sensitive and stunning drawings of horses both from observation and from her imagination. She has a deep empathy and personal knowledge of horses and expresses this in her work. In this exhibition she presents dynamic horse drawings and paintings, and also explores the symbolic role of the horse in ancient cultures such as Classical Greece and Rome and the Tang civilisation in China. Diana is fascinated by the immense skill and understanding of artists from these times, and by the different ways in which they portray the horse to convey its meaning to them. Her work will be of interest to horse-lovers and art lovers who appreciate drawing and an unusual approach to animal art.
