(FICTION, Circa 1964, an excerpt of a novel Im now writing: I wanted to share this because in writing, Ive found some things I didnt see coming, some delicate things having to do with the era of the 50s and 60s that are very interesting to me, and might be interesting to you. John is the central character of this novel. Damien- remember the movie staring Gregory Peck -aint shit compared to this dude). John’s boarding school was top tier. At the beginning of the school year in the fall and other times when parents, or the help, dropped off or picked up students, the large, circular drive in front of the main hall and the parking lot in the back, were populated with numerous Jaguar sedans, Mercedes Benz S Classes, Maserati sedans, several Ferraris, several Rolls Royce Phantoms, several chauffeured limousines, and numerous Cadillacs and Lincolns. Students at the school included sons of CEO’s of major, American and multi-national corporations; sons of Members of the US Congress; of Ambassadors; of members of the president’s cabinet; of famous artists; of famous scientists in government and private sector and academia; and, several students, like John: sons of men who were middle to lower-upper management on their way to the top of corporate America, who were willing to pay out their nose to position their son, or sons, for inclusion into the upper echelons of American business and society. At the school, these boys were nicknamed “reachers.” At the same time John matriculated at the boarding school, not so far away, across the border in Canada, groundbreaking, experimental research in the field of psychology- carried out using the inmates in a very large prison as subjects -had revealed that psychopaths’ structures in the brain, collectively called the limbic system, which includes but is not limited to a tiny structure called the amygdale, in which feelings and emotions are processed, are not functional. Hence, psychopaths cannot process emotion; they have no empathy; and, they rely on their investigations into, and observations of, ‘normal,’ feeling people in order to develop a ‘data base’ for themselves of what they ought to feel and say in situations associated with, or that depend on, emotional response, and, or action. ---- John was good looking like President Kennedy had been. In fact, by the time John went off to the boarding school, he was a young, doppelganger of the then, freshly murdered, former President. John’s JFK looks, and his wardrobe he vainly crafted to mimic the former president, were shocking to everyone he met: The country was still raw and mourning from Dealy Plaza.
