▶ FOR A “CLEARER” UNDERSTANDING… Sit down with your 7-year-old and read Genesis 1 together. You might take turns, letting her read every other verse. When the reading is completed, ask her to tell you in her own words what you’ve read together. You know what she’ll say. Now, look into her eyes, smile with loving pity, and say, “You’d really like to believe that, wouldn’t you, honey? Let Dad give you a clearer understanding.” Explain that Gen. 1:1 is actually about the Big Bang and how every star, planet, and galaxy suddenly popped out of a dot the size of this period. Point out the WHITE SPACE between the first two verses as you tell her that it contains billions of lost years of demons riding T-rexes into battle in hellacious wars that destroyed the planet. Then show her that verse 2 is where God begins repairing the demon/T-rex damage. Make sure that she knows that “evening and morning were the ______ day” is God’s code for “millions and millions of years later,” because God wanted the Bible written in such a way that the common people couldn’t figure it out. Teach your young student that Adam was the first ape to make the mutational jump beyond his ape parents. Then conclude by saying that God looked at billions of years of death, devastation, disease, and decay, all before Adam’s sin, and declared it all “very good.” You’ll notice that your daughter is silent but blinking a lot. Allow me to decipher her Morse Code of blinks for you — “Either you or the Bible or God or all three are insane. If THIS is what the Bible means, I’ll never understand any of it. I can’t wait to run away and join the circus.” A child of seven can read and understand what Genesis 1 clearly says. One has to go to Brainwashing Class in seminary and bow to worldly peer pressure to misunderstand it so tragically.
