Facebook Share Ado Ekiti—The 19 All Progressives Congress, APC, members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have denied planning to impeach the state governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Speaking at the Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti, yesterday, the lawmakers said their recent visit to Lagos State had nothing to do with alleged planned impeachment of the governor. Impeachment rumour Speaking on behalf of others, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Taiwo Orisalade, urged the people of the state to dismiss the rumour. A socio-political group, Ekiti Democratic Coalition, EDC, had alleged in a statement that the lawmakers were offered N800 million bribe by a National Leader of the APC, to impeach Fayose. Fayose The Deputy Speaker described the allegation against him and 14 others as baseless and a figment of imagination of those that concocted the story. Orisalade who reacted to the allegation through his Special Assistant on Media, Taiwo Oluwaleye said he couldn’t imagine how some individuals would just wake up and start writing gibberish with the sole aim of discrediting others. He said he was not even in the country when his colleagues travelled to Lagos State which had to do with the forthcoming convention of APC later this year. The lawmaker said he travelled abroad on Friday, October 17 and returned on Wednesday, October 22 and therefore could not have attended any meeting with anybody. According to him; ‘’The group in its publication, said the Assembly planned to use the dissolution of Local Government Caretaker Committees as reason for the impeachment. “It sounds comical and only intellectual Lilliputians would rush to the press with such cheap blackmail.” Orisalade, however, urged the public to disregard the news in its entirety, adding that the House will not be deterred from its responsibility which was to make laws that will move the State forward. He stressed that the legislative arm will continue to work harmoniously with the executive as it did in the past. Speaker has no right to own private business—Fayose’s aide Meantime, the Special Assistant to the Ekiti State Governor on Information and Social Media, Mr Lere Olayinka has described the claim by Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Omirin that his filling station, T5 Petrol Station, was sealed up for political reasons as the height of mischief and misrepresentation of facts. He said as a public office holder, “the Speaker does not have legal right to own private business, and one wonders how someone prohibited by law to own private business while in office can be said to own a filling station that is under construction.” Olayinka, in a statement yesterday, said; “As against the falsehood being spread by the Speaker and his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Petrol Station, alongside three others were sealed up for contravening environmental laws.” The governor’s aide listed the four filling stations affected by the government action as; INIS Integrated Services located on Iworoko Road, Ado-Ekiti, belonging to Hon. Churchill Adedipe; NIPCO Petrol Station (Morolu Global Services), Isato-Oke in Ado-Ekiti (belonging to Mr Oloko), T5 Petrol Station, Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti (owned by Dr. Adewale Omirin) and PHENROSE Limited, Ajilosun in Ado-Ekiti (owned by Mr Gilbert Igweka). Olayinka, who advised the Speaker to thread softly to prevent himself from being pushed into perdition, added that; “Code 2 (b) of the Code of Conduct Act prohibits public office holders like the Speaker from participating in management or running of any private business, profession or trade. “Therefore, those saying Dr Omirin owns a filling station are only trying to throw him inside the web of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, and they won’t be available to help him out of the mess they would have put him in.” Stop theatrics and face governance, APC tells Fayose The Ekiti State All Progressives Congress, APC, has advised Governor Ayo Fayose to stop playing to the gallery and start governing the people of the state. The Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Taiwo Olatubosun, in a statement said it was high time the governor stopped pulling his usual stunts and start telling the people what beneficial programmes he has for them. The statement reads in part: “We are not surprised about the recent circus show of our Governor, who has been busy reeling out imaginary and mind boggling figures to discredit his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. ‘’It is in his character to do so, we would, as a matter of fact, have ignored him, but we felt the need to set the records straight for the unsuspecting public who may be misled by this overblown cost of the new Governor’s Lodge and the fittings therein. Dr. Fayemi as a firm believer in transparency and accountability had never hidden any of the projects executed with bond money from Ekiti people and this included the new Governor’s Lodge. Nothing could be farther from the truth that N50 million was spent on procuring a bed. Nowhere in the world is any bed sold for N50 million and none of the ones in the Governor’s Lodge is up to N2 million.
