“Filipino community leaders and various [workers abroad] have made their position clear against PhilHealth’s [plan to increase its members’ premium payments],” said John Leonard Monterona, vice chairman of the migrant rights group Migrante. “Since the passage of the PhilHealth Law and is implementation in 1995, [migrant workers] were required to pay a premium of P900,” Monterona said. “That was increased to P1,200 in July this year amid strong opposition from [Filipino workers] around the world.”
