“First light Frenzy” With the first light of dawn slowly - TopicsExpress

“First light Frenzy” With the first light of dawn slowly giving way to the hint of the rising sun below the horizon of silhouetted hills to the east, the black boar began to feel more vulnerable. This transitional time of the morning is the liminal period when the odds start increasing for the human hunter and decreasing for the hunted. Keeping in mind the local intelligence supplied by the landowner of a big boar tearing up the flats, an eagle eye was kept out for anything that looked like a pig. In the dawning light, each dark, round shape was a potential pig, until it moved…slowing down, that internal questioning starts. Is it is a pig…yes…no…maybe--it moved! It is a pig, a big one, cautiously chewing and unwilling to broadside me. As the light increased and the muddled image of the pig sharpened up, I knew I had to act quickly so prepared my gun and stick for nearly a head on shot. Squeezing the trigger, my rifle’s muffled boom signalled a hit. The boar swung around and charged for the bush. Falling just short of the forest, his hairy blackness loomed large as my Jack Russell and I closed in. A great set of tusks for our efforts and another happy landowner.
