This is just a small step in the battle to protect the rights of people from marginalised, disenfranchised and disadvantaged communities. A war is being waged on our homeless ( especially rough sleepers) population, people living in Social Housing (Public, Community or Affordable Housing). This war is being by Victoria Police, the neo cons and socially destructive economic rationalists Liberal Government lead by Premier Dennis Naphthine, Housing Minister Wendy Lovell, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle, Melbourne City Councillors and their Officers and right wing, homphobic religious group the Salvation Army. These attacks are about the gentrification of Melbourne and surrounding municipalities. They are about the privatisation of social housing in all its forms and placing in the hands of the private market and real estate agents. It is about the exclusion of people including Aboriginals, Refugees, People from the Horn of Africa, from Non English Speaking Backgrounds, people with disabilities and dont allow the homeless from participating meaningfully in the community or have a secure future. The only people they want to house are those who can work and supply cheap unskilled labour to the Aldis, the multinationals and supermarkets in the City of Melbourne and surrounding municipalities. Otherwise make no mistake they will throw you on the streets, condemn you to a life of hopelessness, homelessness, passive welfare, the mental health and criminal justice industries, private prison and premature death. These attacks are calculated, callous attacks on some of our most vulnerable citizens and their families. They are designed to cause maximum harm, to re traumatise, destroy the security, health and well being, physical and psychological integrity of these extraordinary people who have overcome so much. Social Housing in all its forms is a hallmark of a civilised society and our committment to our most marginalised citizens. We will not stand idly while these attacks continue and we will not let any more transfers of Public Housing stock fall into the hands of Housing Associations, Church Groups or the private sector.
