“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1.7 As a follower of Christ, when I read this verse, I am reminded of several truths: (1) God does not want me to be afraid; (2) God wants His power to work through me; (3) God wants to love through me; and (4) God wants me to exercise common sense in a world that seems to have little. Look with me at the first phrase here: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear …” Fear, as I understand it and have experienced it, has a paralyzing affect on us. Fear seems to focus on our inability to know what is going to happen, and consequently on our inability to control the unknown. God has the advantage over us here. He already KNOWS all and He has the ability to CONTROL what we cannot control. Do not confuse God’s ability with His will. We frequently ask, “God, why did you allow THIS (whatever THIS is) to happen?” And we wait for an answer and the heavens seem to be brass. Satan then whispers to us, “See, if God really LOVED you, He would answer your question and He would have stopped that awful thing from happening.” Again I remind us, DO NOT confuse God’s ability with His will. Satan is “the accuser of the brethren” and his intent to sow discord in our hearts toward the God Who loves us more than we can imagine. Consider this concept: since we cannot know the unknown, and since we cannot control many of the things that come into our lives, why not release our FEAR to the God Who KNOWS all and Who has the ability to CONTROL what we cannot control. And remember, Romans 8.28 does not say that “all things” ARE good, but that God can make ALL THINGS work together for good” to those who love Him. Give your FEAR to God today and trust Him absolutely! Just my thoughts …
