“For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers….” (Romans 15:8, NASB95) In Genesis 12:1-3 God made a covenant with Abram (Abraham) and told him that through his seed all of the nations would be blessed. Later in Genesis 17 when Abram (now to be known as Abraham) was 99 years of age God reaffirmed His covenant with Abraham as He reaffirmed His promise that through his seed he was making an everlasting covenant. This time Abraham was told that he and all other males in his household were to be circumcised, and that all male children who are subsequently born are to be circumcised on the eighth day (Genesis 17:9-14). God reaffirmed that Abraham’s wife Sarai (Now Sarah) was going to have that child. They had a hard time believing it initially, but sure enough a year later Isaac was born to Abraham who was now 100.
