“For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries.” Hebrews 10:26-27 “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” James 4:17 There are many people that hear of the gospel, listen to the good news and have knowledge of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice and yet do not completely believe in their hearts and so they do not respond accordingly to this truth. There are people who put off their faith thinking that it is not profitable to them in this life. There are those that have responded to the offer of salvation and yet after a time they turn away. These scenarios are what Jesus spoke of in the parable of the Sower, speaking of what happened to the seeds as they fell. Here is a sad truth. Not everyone will respond to the gospel. Not everyone will find salvation. There are those that are just too distracted by this world and there are those that want nothing to do with God and Jesus. Although this has been a fact since God first created man, I find that I am compelled to reach out to offer hope by way of the Cross. I find in my heart a yearning to reach people and get them to understand that it is imperative to truly connect with our Lord, to truly come to know what is at stake for our souls, to truly want to be obedient and to receive a gift that has no price that could ever be paid by anyone because it was paid by Christ. Believing in God and His Son is the start and fearing God, as we know, is the beginning of wisdom. It is in each of us to be able to respond to the good news. It is in each of us to make that choice that allows us to put our relationship with God as the main priority in our lives. We need to be more dedicated to this relationship. We need to be more grateful and rely more completely on Jesus. We cannot think that going to church on Sunday qualifies as a relationship with the Lord. That is not worship; that is attendance. We need to get back to the basics of worship within our homes. We need to ground our families in faith and hope. We need to give more honor to God within our homes. We need to give more truth to our children and direct them toward God and the Cross and away from the lures of this world. We need to take that good news seriously. If there were more people that would live lives that shine for Jesus, more and more of the lost could be found. I find within my heart hope for this country and this world. I find within my heart a passion for God. I find within my heart a love for that Cross and Christ that knows no bounds. I find within me a driving need to lead others home. I hope that you can find within yourself and within your heart a desperate love for God and Jesus that transforms your life into a bright light that shines for Jesus. “You are the light of this world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.” Matthew 5:14-15 Love That Cross, Pastor John Collins
