“For last years words belong to last years language and next years words await another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning.” - T. S. Eliot Well friends here we are, another year at an end, a new year has begun. New Year’s is often seen as a time of rebirth, the chance to start anew. The old year, with its burden of record, has passed away. The New Year, with all its possibilities, has been ushered in. New Year’s is welcomed by all of us together. The New Year is something that we all are looking forward to as a Universal clock to make new resolutions. The turn of a New Year seems to make people all ‘philosophical’. Me included. It seems like the right thing to do – reflect. And from the reflections come the dreams, the ambitions and the promises for the following year. There is no denying that New Year’s brings in days to fill with hopes and dreams, anew. It fills our minds with possibilities of new beginnings. What do we do to see that New Year start off right? We gather with loved ones, family and friends to celebrate the past and usher in the new. We watch the New Years Eve countdown as it happens all over the world and it always feels me with awe and wonder. There’s something in the collective feeling, the shared experience. We’re all in this together, we can make what we want of New Year, celebrate it, mock it, try to hide from it, but for these few hours we share a consciousness of time, all our sadness and joy, what we’re doing with our one and only lifetime. The ritual of eating special foods reminds us who we are, where weve been, and the ways we hope to thrive and to bring us luck. All cultures greet the New Year with a feast that symbolically sets the table for the year ahead. Pork and sauerkraut in the Midwest; greens, black-eyed peas, pork and cornbread of the South; the pickled herring of Scandinavian immigrants; the lentils and pork of Italian-Americans; boiled cod, stewed kale and pork with kransekage for dessert in Denmark; the soba noodles for long life and osechi ryori cuisine, slices of red and white fish paste, pink prawns, cucumber, salmon roe and mandarin oranges in Japan; 12 different circular shaped fruits for good luck with noodles, roasted pig and caramel topped rice cakes in the Philippines; the eating 12 grapes in 12 seconds custom of Spain; or 13 grapes in Peru ~ 1 extra for good measure… Everyone looking for happiness, health and wealth… So as we bid goodbye to 2014, it is inevitable to reminisce on the various happenings of 2014. Let 2014 be a reminder for us all to appreciate our loved ones, appreciate what we already have and everything around us, for health, love and life can be lost in a matter of seconds. In this ever crazy busy, competitive world, it is important to always remember to set aside time and efforts for that moment of appreciation – appreciation for ourselves and appreciation for others. Fewer complaints, fewer arguments and just being thankful may sometimes be the easiest key to sanity! At times, in the midst of our busy schedules, we may fail to notice that a simple “Thank You” makes a big difference and goes a long way. New Year wishes are indispensable part of New Year celebration. Every time we usher a new year with much enthusiasm and look forward to fulfill all dreams and desires. The tradition is therefore to wish Happy New Year to friends and family at the beginning of a new year. For us all New Year’s is the time to get over the failures of the past year and take a positive approach towards the coming year to make it successful. During the New Year time we make promises to become a better person as well as learn from our past mistakes. It is also the time to make fresh commitments and look forth at the new beginning. New Year wishes are therefore full of hopefulness and promises. Lets make resolutions for the coming days to keep. Lets wish that 2015 gives us all the right reasons to smile. Lets keep a list of hopes and dreams that we want to hold on to as we make a fresh start. Lets make 2015 a memorable year by giving our best throughout. Lets go to bed every night with the hope of a new start and let’s wake up every morning with a smile to get through the day. Lets hope for the best this year... Lets WELCOME 2015! Here’s to a fantastic year of creating something special. To loved ones, partner’s in crime, best friends, family members, really anyone you share your life with – let’s make this year count! My wish for you all is: The New Year is the time when the feeling is new… The Sun is new… The blessings are new… The hope is new… The smile is new… The joy is new… The rhythm is new… The peace is new… But my wishes for you are not new… May every day of your life outshine the previous one, I wish you such a brilliant happy New Year!
