"For many students learning New Mexico history, the Pueblo Revolt - TopicsExpress

"For many students learning New Mexico history, the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 is but a small paragraph in their textbooks. For New Mexico’s Pueblo people, this event is a vital part our history and presents a monumental example of resilience and sacrifice by our ancestors. Just as American History teaches students about influential individuals like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and President Abraham Lincoln, we would like to teach about Popé and other significant Pueblo people who have personally contributed to the continuance of Pueblo life. We would like to share the stories of those who have risen to the challenges in their own right and advocated to preserve and protect such things as their traditional lands, language, sovereignty, suffrage, natural resources, sacred places and the right to practice Native religion.
