For the 3rd year in a row, the Japanese Coast Guard & prefectural - TopicsExpress

For the 3rd year in a row, the Japanese Coast Guard & prefectural Police held a training in Taiji ahead of the drive season. This year saw an increase in the number of participant from 100 to 140. The 1st drill, as seen in this photo : A group of anti whaling activists (note the pirate flag to find out who they are targetting) get a boat and attempt to cut the nets holding freshly caught dolphins in the harbour. Yet this scenario is highly unlikely, indeed it wouldnt make any sense for any anti whaling group to get a boat which would be too expensive and too obvious, when they can simply jump in the water and swim less than 50meters like @Blackfish did 3 years ago in the dead of night. The 2nd drill was designed after a french guy decided to meditate on the harbour unofficial parking lot in front of a fishermen car, even if the fisherman could easily leave by hitting reverse pride forbiden him to do just that. At the time the police seemed like they didnt know what to do, and ultimatly the activist was given a warning. The incident went all the way up to tokyo to the minister or defence and minister of fisheries. In their meeting they decided that to fix this problem it would now be up to the riot police to arrest anyone attempting to do a sit in that would block a vehicle transporting dolphin meat. An helicopter was also dispached, to circle over the area and issue warning. Shuichi Matsumoto the president of Taiji Fishermen Union said "I think there was no big trouble last year. Looking at this training allow us to concentrate on fishing in peace". For the last 2years, none of the policemen who were on duty in taiji actually took part in the training, letting us believe that this is just a show for the locals and the media. The Police opened a temporary office in taiji and will have 10 men assuring a 24/7 presence for the entire season resuming on september 1st until the end of february for the dolphin drive hunt, and the small whale harpoon hunt until the end of april. In time of record debt japan is spending a lot of taxpayer money to protect a very small group of people bringing shame to their beautiful country.
