“For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed by you, brother.” Philemon 1:7 Are we a source of refreshment or do our words and actions tend to be a cause of discouragement to others? Paul said of Philemon, “I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers, hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints” (1:4, 5) and “Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even more than I say” (1:21). Do our faith and love cause others to be thankful? Can others have confidence in our obedience? If the things said of Philemon can’t be said of us, isn’t it time to make some changes in our attitude toward both God and man?
