“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be - TopicsExpress

“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son…” (Romans 8:29). If someone was to ask you the question, “What is your purpose in life?” – how would you respond? Would you say that it’s your job? your ministry? your family? What happens if you loose your job? What happens if you loose your family? As important as these are, our purpose in life needs to be even greater. Paul describes his life purpose in Philippians 3:10 – He says, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” Moses was a man who witnessed the incredible power and miracles of God in Egypt. He saw God part the Red Sea. He saw God supply food and water for the nation of Israel in the midst of a barren desert for forty years. He saw all of these things, but he was never content. In Exodus 33:13, he said, “Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, show me now thy way, that I may know thee…” The Bible describes David as a man after God’s own heart. In Psalm 27:4, he says, “One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD…” In His great high priestly prayer in John 17:3, Jesus prayed, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.” In Matthew 11:29 Jesus said, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart…” There are multitudes of people who are serving Jesus Christ who have never really taken the time to get to know Him; and you cannot get to know Jesus Christ intimately apart from understanding His character. He is the personification of meekness, forgiveness, obedience and a host of other Godly qualities. It’s as we get to know Him that we learn how to respond correctly to others and to the trials and difficulties of life. It’s as we get to know Him that we find true purpose in life as we become transformed more and more into His likeness.
