“Fortunately, churches do not go on strike. Unfortunately, - TopicsExpress

“Fortunately, churches do not go on strike. Unfortunately, church members too often go to war with each other. They frequently choose sides based on an offense or perceived offense and work diligently to ensure victory for their side. When such a scenario happens in the church, as with school strikes, everyone loses. Perhaps the greatest losers are individuals who are new in the faith or are struggling with their own spiritual maturation. It is at the expense of all the members of the Body that such wars take place. It is at the expense of our ability to lead others to Christ that we fight wars of opinion and preference. We must honesty ask ourselves when we are facing conflict, ‘Is this issue really that important? Is it worth the battle? Am I willing to pay the price to get my own way?’” And most of all we must ask, ‘Is it worth making others pay a price for our personal vindication?’” Paul says, ‘Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.’” (Philippians 2:3) From A Yellow Raincoat & Other Memories. I might add that I am not advocating that anyone compromise the truth in the name of peace; just that all of us must make sure that it is God’s Word that we are standing firm on and not our opinion.
