‘Four more streets and we will declare victory in Kobanê’ SEDAT SUR - KOBANÊ 25.01.2015 12:00 Mazlum Kobanê, a YPG commander on the eastern front, said that ISIS gangs were now confined to only four streets in the Kaniya Kurda area, and that once these four streets were cleared victory would be declared in Kobanê. YPG commander Mazlum Kobanê evaluated the YPG/YPJ forces’ operation to cleanse the eastern part of Kobanê of ISIS gangs for ANF. The YPG commander said that following the liberation of Mistenur Hill, they had stepped up their operations to cleanse the city of the remaining gangs. He recalled that YPG/YPJ fighters had launched the operation for the Liberation of Kobanê in December, and had taken control of most strategic points in the city. ‘The gangs are confined to the eastern part of the city’ The YPG commander said after the ISIS gangs had launched their attacks on 15 September they had not been able to gain access to the city from the west, and that after the liberation of Mistenur Hill they had been driven from the southern front. “The ISIS gangs are now confined to the Kaniya Kurda area to the east. On 23 January YPG/YPJ forces cleansed the Şeria school and Seyda street where the mosque is situated,” added the YPG commander, who said the taking of Mistenur Hill had turned the balance of the conflict in their favour. “After the capture of Mistenur Hill we have made significant advances. The ISIS gangs are in disarray and many have been killed or forced to flee,” added the commander. He added that the ISIS gangs only remained in 4 streets. The YPG commander said: “We are advancing carefully on account of mines left behind by the gangs as they flee. By the time we have reached the hill in the Kaniya Kûrda area we will have driven the gangs out of the whole of Kobanê city and we will declare victory.”
