■■From Lancet■■ Bilateral exudative retinal detachments in Sturge-Weber syndrome An 11-year-old girl with a port-wine stain on both sides of her face presented after reporting progressive difficulty reading. Visual acuity in the right eye was 20/100 and and in the left eye she could count fingers only. Fundus examination of the right eye showed an inferior retinal detachment with retinal pleats. A subretinal peripapillary lesion was also seen. Dilated examination of the left eye showed a bullous retinal detachment that could be seen through the pupil without ophthalmoscopy. A light ring artifact was noted in the centre of the image. No retinal tears or breaks were seen in either eye. Verteporfin photodynamic therapy of the right eye substantially reduced exudation, with visual acuity improving to 20/70. The left eye will likely require radiation therapy, having failed multiple intracameral bevacizumab injections and several months of systemic sirolimus therapy. Surgical treatment for exudative retinal detachment is contraindicated. bit.ly/1bP8QYX
