, G.R.A.C.E., you all might like. THE DOCTRINE OF G.R.A.C.E. DeWayne W. Austin G - Gracious Election – Rom. 11:5,6 Scripture pulsates with the thought that God elects men unto salvation. “…I am found of them that sought me not…” (Is. 65:1). “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you...” (Jn. 15:16) “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world…” (Eph. 1:4). Throughout all ages God has worked on the basis of election. He chose Abel and rejected Cain. He chose Shem and rejected Ham and Japheth. He chose Isaac and rejected Ishmael. Election is unto salvation (1Cor. 1:2). R - Ruined Sinners – Rom. 3:11; 5:12; 7:18 Jn. 3:5-7 Man, because of the fall, is totally depraved, thoroughly crooked, wicked and sinful before God. The sinner is defiled in every faculty. By position and practice, man is rotten to the core in God’s sight. “There is none righteous, no, not one.” (Rom. 3:10). Since the sinner is totally depraved, he is spiritually dead, defiled and disabled. God is the only hope of the sinner “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God…” (1Jn. 5:1). A - Absolute Atonement – Heb. 10:10-12; Acts 16:14; Phil. 2:13 Christ died for all the sins of all the elect. He laid down his life for the “sheep” (Jn. 10:15); for His “friends” (Jn. 15:13,14); for the “church” (Eph. 5:25); and as a ransom for the “many” (Mk. 10:45). Whom the Father elects, the Son redeems and the Holy Ghost sanctifies (1Pet. 2:24). C - Compelling Love – John 3:16 God is Holy, Righteous, Sovereign and Irresistible in all of His actions toward man. And even greater (1Jn. 4) for His chosen creatures. He sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (1Jn. 4:10) while we were depraved (Eph. 2:1). God, in His Grace, loved us eternally with an everlasting love. God is never caught by surprise (Acts 15:18), He is always in complete control (Eph. 1:4; Job 38:4-7). God, in eternity past, chose… E - Everlasting Life – 2Cor. 5:17; Jn. 3:36; Phil. 1:6 Once saved, always saved. Perseverance is that continuous operation of the Holy Spirit in the believer, by which the work of Divine Grace begun…is continued and brought to completion. It is a know-so Salvation (2Tim. 1:12; 1Jn. 3:2). Jesus Christ calls His people, “My sheep” (Jn. 10:7-16, 27). God works in us and we persevere (Phil. 2:13; Ec. 3:14). He loves us to the end (Jn.13:1). He will not cast us out (Jn. 6:37). One of the best proofs that God’s saving love shall have no end, is that it has no beginning. Romans 9:20-22, “Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?” Genesis 18:25, “…Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?”
